4 Keys to Chasing Your Dreams

What gets you out of bed every morning? 

Fuels your inner fire. 

For me, it is to become a better Footballer and play at the greatest level I can. Although I am motivated and driven for and by a lot of other things that it is dream that I will focus on in this blog. Here are my 5 tips to chasing and fulfilling your dreams:

  1. Setting and Achieving Goals

“Reach for the skies!” is what my parents told me when I was young, and I believed it every time. The first step in chasing your dreams is to break down the journey into shorter term achievable goals. For myself in soccer, what works best is setting daily, monthly and yearly goals that allow me to feel regular success and further fuel my motivation in chasing that top dream. Everything is achievable when you can see the finish line.

2. Believe in Yourself

In the world of Professional Football, you experience a lot of highs and a lot of lows, just like in most jobs. From the pressure of performing to the expectations of supporters, the last thing you need is a voice in your head putting up negative thoughts. To be my best and set myself up for success, I treasure my circle of people who support me because they put me in me in my most positive headspace. Find what makes you happy, take a deep breath, and believe in yourself. 

3. Stop Competing with Others

This is something I have suffered recently because of my natural competitive nature – I grew up with three brothers okay! I have learnt that with this mindset you will always be chasing shadows of other people and not focusing on being a better you. Concentrating more energy into yourself overtime will allow you to progress further in whatever you want to achieve. 

4. Patience is key

I know… No one likes the word patience… People are always forward thinking in what is the quickest way to get from A to B but don’t forget Steve Jobs didn’t create Apple overnight. The people that edge closer and closer to their dreams are those that concentrate on constant practice and repetition. Kicking a ball once a day for 10 000 days will make you a better Footballer then kicking a ball 10 000 times in one day. It’s creating a craft, a skill, a lifestyle just like in any job or hobby you have. Patience is key to becoming a better you.
